Technical 1

The Technical 1 course is UTD’s first technical diving course and is designed to prepare divers for technical diving and familiarize them with the use of various breathing mixes (25/25, 21/35, or 18/45) , the use of a single decompression tank with the possibility of choosing between two mixes (Nitrox 50 or O2 100%) and various ways to manage two technical dives in a single day.

This course uses helium to minimize narcosis and painstakingly explores the use and benefits of using a single decompression tank.

Limits

Maximum depth 48 meters, a single decompression tank and, if the extension is applied (included in the course price), a single phase tank. Maximum decompression time using 100% Oxygen is limited to one oxygen cycle (15 minutes) and maximum decompression time using Nitrox 50 is 30 minutes.

Prerequisites

Minimum age 21 years.

Have made at least 75 dives since Open Water certification.

UTD Essentials patent with Tech extension, Recreational 2 UTD with Doubles Mini (double cylinder) or Techreational extension, or equivalent subject to evaluation.

Swim at least 365 meters in less than 14 minutes or at least 550 meters in 18 minutes with mask and fins.

Swim for at least 15 meters freediving without fins.

Carry a fully equipped buddy to the surface for at least 10 minutes.

Demonstration of the rescue of a comrade simulating oxygen poisoning.

Course contents

The UTD Technical 1 course is typically taught over 5 days and features a minimum of 32 hours of instruction devoted to teaching the practicalities of technical diving, the use of Trimix and decompression mixes, including history, physics, physiology, tables and other technical considerations.

The initial dives will be carried out in shallow water to check the level of preparation of the students, correct their defects in the execution of the exercises and teach emergency resolution techniques. The last two dives are reserved for experience dives and must be carried out at a maximum depth of 48m.

Equipment Required

Each student should have access to and be familiar with the following equipment:

  • An AL40 decompression tank (about 6 litres).
  • An AL80 phase cylinder (11 litres) if you want to obtain the relative extension)
  • A primary reel with at least 60 meters of line for each team
  • The price of the course is divided into:
  • 1000 euro INSTRUCTOR FEE
  • 200 euros DIVING FEE
